Exclusive Interview with 'Rob Kajiwara'

Rob Kajiwara Interview

Q: First of all we want to say welcome to you.
Ans:
Thank you for taking the time to interview me.

Q: How did you come into music industry?
Ans:
I got involved in music because I wanted to use music, art, and film as a way of making positive influences around the world. I’m a singer-songwriter, but I’m also an author, visual artist, and social justice advocate.

Q: Who was your inspiration for music?
Ans:
My inspiration really comes from the human rights and social justice work that I do. I hope to use music, art, and film to talk about serious issues and hopefully influence positive change. Musically speaking, I’m strongly influenced by the Beatles, Elton John, Hawaiian music, and traditional Ryukyu / Okinawan music

Q: What is the name of your debut song?
Ans:
I already have quite a few songs out. For example, in my new song, Peace For Okinawa, the lyrics talk about the human rights violations occurring against Okinawans. This is a serious issue that I wish more people around the world would know about. So I’m using music and art to try to share this issue with the world.

Q: Say something about your musical journey?
Ans:
It’s been quite an interesting journey! In December 2018 I started a petition to help save the coral reef at Henoko, Okinawa, and the petition has gone on to receive over 211,000 signatures! Many famous celebrities have also signed the petition, including Dr. Brian May of Queen. Since I was a little kid, Queen has been one of my musical heroes and influences. So for Dr. Brian May to endorse my petition was a huge honor! I’m truly grateful.

Q: What do you do now a days?
Ans:
I’m working on an upcoming full-length album that talks more about this issue, as well as many other issues, such as America’s gun violence, global climate change, poverty, and many others. The album will be released later this summer.

Q: Let us know something about your future projects
Ans:
I’m also working on an upcoming film that I wrote the screenplay and soundtrack for. The film is called More Than Just a Brick in the Wall, and is a musical mockumentary. It’s about a young singer-songwriter newly risen to fame as he learns to navigate the music industry while maintaining his artistic integrity, as well as his personal life. My producer-manager, Nelson Del Pino, is currently working on getting the film produced.

Q: What is your message to your fans?
Ans
: I’d like to say thank you to all of my fans and supporters around the world.
