Q: First of all we want to say welcome to you.
A: Blessings to All! Peace, Prosperity and Love!
Q: How did you come into music industry?
A: Hi my name is Da’wan Gold or Goldie. I first came into the music industry in 2011 I had been medically discharged from the Army as a Combat Engineer with 2 tours in Iraq, and got the opportunity to move to Los Angeles California to work alongside my nephew who was at the time signed to Capitol Records. I was also undergoing therapy for Ptsd(Post traumatic stress disorder) and TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) so I was dealing with a lot of issues that music helped me cope with.
Q: Who was your inspiration for music?
A: My inspiration for music would be J-Cole, The Roots, Common, John Legend, H.E.R, The Late Nipsey Hussle, Chance the Rapper, Khalid, Anderson Pak, Outkast, 8ball MJG, Wiz Khalifa, to name a few.
Q: What is the name of your debut song?
A: My debut song is called OneDay I wrote this song coming out of a dark place musically and spiritually.
Q: Say something about your musical journey?
A: At one point I was lost while chasing the dream of being an artist. I wanted to get back to what I thought and felt was real but lost my way and connections with family and friends. I traveled while in the Army and worked with big and small labels around the world but still felt like I was not making a proper connection. I created this to remind myself, and maybe others, that it’s ok to be different musically and it often takes time to find your own lane. OneDay came and I was happy with the outcome.
Q: Who helped you most in your journey?
A: Honestly I had help from a lot of great artists and producers but I couldn’t make anything stick musically. I think I was overwhelmed with everything that was going on and I couldn’t pin-point my own sound.
Q: Who gave you pieces of advice?
A: The biggest piece of advice I received was from my great friend Jacques Mady (Director, Dj, and Producer) He said Da’wan “get back to the roots” so thats what I did. Getting back to the roots for me was acknowledging the past and how I needed to heal but also give self love so I could love not just family and friends but also love what I was doing. Not to say I didn’t love making music but my care for it was not as it is now.
Q: What do you do now a days?
A: Im currently traveling Asia right now, with trips to Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, and then back to Berlin. I was back in America for a short while but the state I was living in was just too cold. Then the producer of my second single Hollywood Acting is waiting to start the second Ep in Berlin.
Q: Let us know something about your future projects.
A: I use my portable studio to make music while on the road and he helps me mix and master. S/o to Los Angels Film School where I received my associates in Audio Engineering. My Ep Soul Vibes will release on all digital outlets on the 11 November (Veterans Day) Big ups and respect to all the Military Veterans. Being real I don’t have many fans yet but I know they will come.
Q: What is your message to your fans?
A: So to my future fans and the few I have now just know I never gave up, I never quitted and this is a bit of a cliche but don’t stop working or believing in yourself or your dreams. Just keep grinding and through that turbulence you’re sure to find your way.
Q: Any message for new artist?
A: My message to new and old artists 1 is that I’m coming and 2 I would love to work with anyone who is creatively on the same energy positivity, love & light. Bless Up!
