Q: First of all we want to say welcome to you.
Thank you for interviewing me today!

Q: How did you come into the music industry?
I started my band, Across The Board in 2014 as a Youtube Cover band. We have nearly 700 videos on Youtube now and have created several musical series. Over time our fans began asking us what our original music was like, so in 2016 we released our debut album “Jane On Fire” and began touring as a live band. Since that time we have played live all over Canada and have written and recorded 5 studio albums. We continue to make Youtube videos and original music videos, and look forward to expanding our touring beyond Canada into the States and Europe.

Q: Who was your inspiration for music?
We have several across the band members, primarily Fleetwood Mac, Broken Social Scene, Walk Off The Earth, Paramour and Evanescence.

Q: What was the name of your debut song?
“Jane On Fire”—it is song that personifies the street upon which we live—Jane Street, which used to be a beautiful vibrant neighbourhood, filled with hope and dreams. In recent years Jane Street has become notorious for gunshots, gang violence and poverty. “Jane On Fire’ explores the metaphor of the “fallen woman” with the plight of the neighbourhood. It’s a song we play in nearly every show and have carried along with us during each tour.

Q: Tell us about your musical journey?
For me (Jackie), I began playing guitar at the age of 10 and then picked up several band instruments in junior high and high school including oboes, flute, sax and drums. I’ve always been in some type of band—from folk rock, to concert bands to our current project and home, Across The Board.

Q: Who helped you most in your journey?
Our producers Darnell and Matt from MC2 Music Media and Michael Stover from MTS Management have been instrumental in not only helping us create and disseminate our music but understand the music business in its current incarnation. In addition, many of my music friends who collaborate with us have taught me incredible amounts of musical info on the performance front.

Q: Who gave you pieces of advice?
Best advice: Darnell Toth, MC2 Music Media—“You don’t need to be signed by a record label anymore”. The late Mike (The Beard Guy) Taylor from Walk Off The Earth “just keep making content, content content”.

Q: What are your most recent successes?
We recently won best short film—music video category at the Toronto Alt Film Festival for “No Curtain Call”. We won best rock band, best rock song and best music video under 5000 at the Indie Music Channel Awards in Los Angeles. We won two gold medals and two silver medals from thw Global Music Awards for our last two albums, “Sonic Boom” and “Wild Ones”. We also played to a full house at Toronto’s iconic Opera House last Spring and will be playing their once again October 11, 2019 for “Rock The Cure” in support of Breast Cancer research and awareness.

Q: Let us know something about your future projects
We are currently in studio in pre-production on our next full-length record “Love Potion”.

Q: What is your message to your fans?
We want to encourage you to follow us along, as us questions, make requests and share the music and songs you enjoy. Live your dreams, play to the sound of your dreams, and don’t be afraid to live your own dreams—at any age!

Q: Any message for new artists?
Don’t be afraid to make content every day. It doesn’t have to be perfect and polished for a one-minute cover clips on Instagram or a live stream acoustic concert on Facebook. Collaborate, and make content. The deeper your rabbit hole, the more fans will get interesting in hanging out there!
