Birmingham, Funk musician Thomas Atlas is right on the money with his new self-titled album. The album out on the 30th of April will be available on a delicious marbled blue record and digital.
The ten-track record showcases Thomas’ prowess, and he keeps nothing hidden up his sleeve with his energy and quality rising out of each track with conviction. Vocally, Thomas is on point, with each track being a testament to his class.
The album kicks off with ‘Got This Feeling’, the first single release from the new record. It is an instant groove magnet, and the blues and funk rhythms flow seamlessly with Thomas unleashes a mouther-watering singing performance. We then head straight into ‘Halfway To The Moon’, another stand-out release from Thomas that came earlier this year. From the opening gems, it is evident that Thomas is not messing around with his biggest hits coming first. It is often an indication that the rest of the album will be equally as vigorous; it does not disappoint.
Furthermore, each track grips, and ‘Give It To Me’ gets a whole new lease of life with a wah-wah guitar effect which fastens itself around one of the punchiest and infallible bass riffs to rise out of the funk hemisphere in modern times. Also, Thomas pushes into his high vocal register, and he brings a new flavour to the record with his high tones inviting us in with every step.
‘Paradise Circus’ shows off the bass player in even more light, and the brass backing band come out of their shell with their upbeat arrangements vaulting out of the mix. ‘Groove 101’ also shines a light on each band member, and the penultimate, ‘The Way It Is’, gets us ready for the compassionate finale, ‘Healer’. It is a breathing taking gem, and it pierces the heartstrings!
